These are not two separate acts but two dimensions of a single, genuine response to the gospel. Ephesians 2:8-9 clarifies the basis: 'For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.' Salvation is entirely God's initiative and gift; faith is the empty hand that receives it. No moral résumé, religious pedigree, or accumulated merit contributes to the standing God gives freely in Christ.

Yes — Scripture consistently calls believers to assurance rather than perpetual doubt. Acts 16:31 promises, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.' The verb 'will be saved' is a simple future indicative — certain and unconditional upon the condition of genuine faith. The Apostle John wrote his first letter explicitly 'so that you may know that you have eternal life' (1 John 5:13), not merely hope for it anxiously. Assurance rests on three pillars: the objective work of Christ, whose atoning death is fully sufficient; the internal witness of the Holy Spirit, who 'bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God' (Romans 8:16); and the ongoing fruit of genuine faith, such as love for God, love for others, and a changed life.
