Romans 10:17 states plainly, 'So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.' Faith is not manufactured by human effort or positive thinking; it is awakened by the proclamation of the gospel. The Greek word rhema (word) here points to the spoken, living message about Christ — His death, resurrection, and lordship. Hebrews 11:6 declares, 'And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.' This verse reveals two foundational convictions required for a faith that pleases God: first, that God is real and not a human projection; second, that He is a rewarder — a God who is not indifferent to those who seek Him. Approaching God on any other basis, whether moral achievement, religious ritual, or philosophical reasoning alone, bypasses the relational trust He desires. Faith is the posture of the creature who acknowledges complete dependence on the Creator. It glorifies God precisely because it treats His Word as more trustworthy than human wisdom or sensory experience, giving Him the honor due His name.
