The Great White Throne Judgment

The great white throne judgment, described in Revelation 20:11-15, is the final judgment at which all the dead stand before God to give account of their deeds. John writes, "Then I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated on it. From His presence earth and heaven fled away... And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened." This judgment reveals the sovereign justice of God, who will leave no human action without examination or recompense. Revelation 20:12 specifies that "the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done." Among these books is the book of life, the register of those redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Every secret, word, and motive is laid bare before the One on the throne. This judgment does not concern believers whose names are written in the book of life. Jesus affirms in John 5:24, "Whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." Romans 8:1 confirms, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." For those who have rejected Christ, Revelation 20:15 announces the verdict: "And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire"—the second death, eternal separation from God. The way of escape is to trust Christ now.
