Spiritual Mindedness in the Bible

To set the mind on the things of the Spirit is the path of life and peace. Paul states it plainly: "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace" (Romans 8:6). Spiritual mindedness does not mean fleeing the concrete world, but a deep orientation of all our faculties toward God: our thoughts, our desires, and our imaginations placed under the government of the mind of Christ. It is not the suppression of the intellect but its consecration, so that reason serves faith and the heart weighs everything in the light of the Word. The apostle calls us to a deep work: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). This renewal is not instantaneous; it happens through meditation on the Scriptures, persevering prayer, and continual obedience to the Holy Spirit. Where the flesh clings to the temporal, to anxiety, and to covetousness, the spiritual mind contemplates eternal realities and rests in the peace that surpasses all understanding. To cultivate this mindset is to learn to see the real with the eyes of faith, to discern what pleases God, and to let the Holy Spirit reorient, day after day, the center of gravity of our inner life. Colossians 3:2 urges us to "set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
