Finding Meaning in a Crisis of Purpose
A crisis of purpose arises when a person asks: "Why do I exist? What is the meaning of my life?" In the face of these dizzying questions, the Bible offers a clear answer: we were created by God and for God (Colossians 1:16). Ephesians 2:10 declares it: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Our reason for being is therefore not a riddle to solve alone, but a calling to discover in the presence of our Creator. A crisis of purpose often arises when we seek meaning in things incapable of giving it: success, pleasure, or the approval of others. When these supports collapse, emptiness appears. But Scripture reminds us that God's greatest servants themselves passed through moments of doubt and disorientation: Elijah under the broom tree, Jeremiah in his laments, the psalmist in his distress. God did not reject them; He lifted them up and called them forward. The promise of Jeremiah 29:11 remains an anchor: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Psalm 34:18 adds: "The LORD is near to the brokenhearted." Your purpose does not depend on your performance; it was written before you were even born. Isaiah 43:1 resounds as a word from God Himself: "I have called you by name, you are mine."
