Jesus, the Prince of Peace

Centuries before the Messiah was born, the prophet Isaiah declared that he would be called, among other names, the Prince of Peace: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). This title does not merely describe the character of Jesus; it reveals the very nature of the kingdom he inaugurates, a kingdom of shalom, of wholeness, and of restored harmony between God and humanity. The peace Jesus gives is not the absence of outward conflict but an inward peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). As the Prince of Peace, he reconciled humanity with God, bringing peace where there had been enmity, and abolishing through his cross the separation that sin had carved out. He himself assures his disciples, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27). This peace does not depend on circumstances; it flows from the certainty that the Sovereign of the universe is also a loving Father. In a world filled with conflict, anxiety, and division, the Prince of Peace remains the only source of a peace that is both real and lasting. It is received through prayer and trust, as the apostle Paul reminds us: "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).

How do I receive the peace the Prince of Peace offers?
