A Lamp Unto My Feet
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" (Psalm 119:105). Through this beautiful image, Scripture compares itself to a lamp that illuminates the believer's walk, revealing the next step in the midst of darkness. In a world full of uncertainty, the Word of God orients, directs, and gives the light needed to live according to the Lord's will. A lamp does not always reveal the whole road ahead, but it faithfully lights the next step, inviting the faithful to move forward in trust and obedience. Throughout Psalm 119 the psalmist pours out his love for this Word: he hides it in his heart so that he might not sin against God (Psalm 119:11), he meditates upon it, and he delights in it as a treasure. To receive the Word as a lamp is therefore to acknowledge that we do not walk alone or blindly; God lights the path of those who journey in His truth. These verses invite the believer to seek divine direction in Scripture, to meditate upon it each day, and to obey it, assured that whoever follows the light of the Word will not go astray. Where the lamp of God shines, the darkness of uncertainty retreats, and the faithful find the peace of knowing where to set their feet. The lamp's light is sufficient for the day, teaching us to depend on God step by step.
