The Great Tribulation and Hope in Christ

Scripture speaks of the great tribulation as a time of intense trial that will precede the final consummation, but it always accompanies it with a sure hope for those who trust in God. Rather than feeding fear, the Bible calls for perseverance and faith. Jesus announces in Matthew 24:21 "great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world," but he also prepares his disciples to stand firm to the end. Revelation 7:14 shows a vast multitude of the redeemed "which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes... in the blood of the Lamb": the trial, therefore, is not the last word, for God keeps his own and leads them to victory. The Lord Jesus himself declares: "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). This word shifts the gaze from present suffering to the certainty of Christ's triumph. The believer is not called to anxiously scan the signs of the times, but to remain faithful, watchful, and full of hope. These verses encourage us to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, the conqueror of every trial, knowing that whoever endures to the end will be saved and will share in the eternal glory that is promised to all who persevere. The same multitude that came "out of great tribulation" now stands before the throne with robes washed white (Revelation 7:14), proof that present affliction gives way to lasting victory for everyone who holds fast to the Lamb.
