The Good News of the Gospel
The good news is the joyful message of salvation in Jesus Christ, which sets us free from sin and opens the way to eternal life. The apostle Paul, quoting the prophet Isaiah, exclaims, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:15). This message does not consist of good advice that one ought to follow, but of an accomplished announcement: Christ "died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). This is the heart of the Christian faith. Scripture calls every believer to receive this good news by faith, but also to share it in love, for it is too precious to be kept to oneself. Jesus commanded his disciples, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation" (Mark 16:15). To proclaim this news is an act of love that offers eternal hope to all who hear it. Before his ascension, the Lord promised his witnesses the power of the Holy Spirit to carry this message "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). These verses celebrate the good news of God's love and the hope offered to all who believe in Christ.
