Giving in the Bible

Giving is an expression of faith, gratitude, and love that reflects the generous heart of God. Jesus himself declared, according to Acts 20:35, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Scripture teaches us to give with joy, not under compulsion, trusting in the One who provides abundantly. In 2 Corinthians 9:7 Paul writes, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." Giving blesses the one who receives as much as the one who gives, for it frees the heart from attachment to possessions and opens it to trust in God. Giving is not limited to money: it is also offering one's time, resources, service, and love to those around us. The believer gives according to what he has (2 Corinthians 9:7), not according to what he does not have, and does so with the certainty that God provides so that he may keep on giving. Generosity lived out in this way becomes an act of worship that honors the Lord and bears witness to his grace. These verses encourage a generous life with open hands, ready to share with joy what God has entrusted, trusting in his faithful and abundant provision.
