The Call to Ministry in Scripture

God calls people to serve Him in ministry, equipping them to build up His Church and to proclaim the gospel. This calling does not rest on human merit but on the grace and purpose of God, who "chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things" to accomplish His work (1 Corinthians 1:26-29). No one qualifies himself for ministry; it is the Lord who calls, equips, and sustains those He sends. The apostle Paul, conscious of this grace, wrote, "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). Ministry is not a quest for greatness or recognition, but a humble response to the divine purpose, marked by faithful service and self-giving. Those who are called are invited to discern that call in prayer, to recognize the gifts God has entrusted to them, and to seek confirmation from the community of believers. Faithfulness in small things prepares us for greater responsibilities. These verses encourage us to respond with faith and devotion, knowing that "the one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:24). The servant of God walks in dependence, persuaded that the One who calls also gives the power to accomplish the work entrusted to him, so that the glory belongs to God alone.
