The Blood of Jesus in the Bible

The blood of Jesus is at the heart of redemption: through it we receive the forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God. Scripture proclaims it with power: "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace" (Ephesians 1:7). This blood is not an empty symbol, but the real price of salvation, willingly poured out by the Son of God to redeem sinners. The blood of Christ accomplishes what the ancient sacrifices could not reach: it purifies the conscience itself. "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" (Hebrews 9:14). Where sin defiled the heart, the blood of Jesus washes and frees, opening free and confident access to the presence of God. The epistle to the Hebrews recalls a fundamental principle: "Without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22). This is why the blood of Christ seals the new covenant, pays the ransom of sin, and reconciles to God all who believe. The apostle John adds this promise of assurance: "The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). For the believer, then, the blood of Jesus is not only an event of the past, but a present and living reality, the foundation of peace with God and the source of an unshakable hope.
