Bearing Hardship and Persevering in Faith
The Bible calls us to bear difficulties with faith and trust in God. It does not deny the reality of trials, but it promises that the strength to endure them comes from the Lord, our refuge and support at all times. To bear is not to grit one's teeth by one's own resources alone; it is to lean on the One who is faithful and who never abandons us in the midst of the struggle. The central promise is found in 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." God knows the measure of each person and always makes a way out. Temptation and trial never exceed what his grace makes bearable. The strength to persevere comes not from within, but from above. Paul affirms it: "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). This power is received through prayer, through meditation on the Word, and through fellowship with other believers β means that God uses to strengthen the soul and enable it to stand in the hardest moments. These verses teach that persevering under trial builds Christian character and draws us closer to God. The Lord does not promise to deliver us from every trial, but to be present in it and to give us the strength to bear it. In this way, bearing hardship with faith becomes a path of growth and hope.
