Serving as a Servant of God in the Bible

To be a minister, in the biblical sense, is above all to serve. Jesus Himself declared that He "did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28). True ministry is born not of ambition or the pursuit of honors, but of a heart willing to give, to help, and to build up others in the name of God. In the kingdom, greatness is measured in a way that overturns the values of the world: "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant" (Mark 10:43). The one who aspires to first place is called to make himself last and the slave of all, after the image of his Master. This service is not limited to visible or prestigious tasks; it consists in caring for those in need, bearing the burdens of the weak, and using the gifts received for the common good. 1 Peter 4:10 exhorts each one to use whatever gift he has received to serve others, "as good stewards of God's varied grace." These verses call us to a life of humble service, carried out with love and constancy, following the example of Christ who served even to giving His life on the cross. Serving thus becomes the very path of growing into the likeness of the Lord, where dignity is found not in power but in self-giving love.
