Corinth was a major commercial hub with two ports (one on the Aegean, one on the Adriatic), making it one of the wealthiest cities in Greece. The city was infamous for sexual immorality, with the Temple of Aphrodite employing sacred prostitutes. "To Corinthianize" meant to practice sexual immorality.
