Genesis 1: The days of creation
What happens
Genesis opens with an ordered account of creation across six days: light, sky, sea and dry land, the sun and moon, living creatures, and finally humankind, made male and female in God's image and blessed to be fruitful and to steward the earth. Each stage is pronounced good, and the sequence moves from a formless, empty world toward one that is filled and ordered.
What follows
The seventh day is set apart as rest before the narrative turns to a closer view of the man, the woman, and the garden.
